Part-time Library Assistant for Children’s and Young Adult Departments
The Community Library is currently seeking a part-time library assistant to work in the Children’s and Young Adult Departments.
Persons interested in this position should be ready to step into a busy summer environment in the Children’s and Young Adult departments. This person will work directly with the public in providing a range of library services and creating a welcoming and helpful environment. A library assistant also works within the library collection to shelve and locate materials and assist with collection maintenance.
Primary tasks include registering new patrons and issuing library cards; checking out and renewing items; providing information to patrons; processing new books; and assisting with library programs and events. Ability to interact positively with children, teens, and caregivers is necessary. Excellent customer service and communication skills and the ability to provide reader’s advisory specific to children’s, middle grade, and young adult literature are important. Bachelor’s degree preferred, undergraduate degree, two years of post-secondary education, or equivalent education, training or experience required. Bilingual skills in Spanish and English are desired.
This position is open through May 20th. This is a non-exempt part-time position ranging from 14 – 30 hours per week. Weekends shifts are required. The starting rate of pay is $15 per hour. The position reports to the Children’s and Young Adult Department Supervisor. This is temporary, summer position with growth possible. Part-time Library Assistant
The Community Library seeks a part-time Library Assistant to work at the main circulation desk. The person in this position works extensively with the public in providing a range of library services and creating a welcoming and helpful environment. Primary tasks include registering new library patrons and issuing library cards; checking out and renewing items; providing information to patrons; providing basic technology assistance to patrons; and processing new books. The Library Assistant also works within the library collection to shelve and locate materials and assist with collection maintenance. Excellent communication skills and a sincere interest in books are necessary; proficiency in both Spanish and English is highly preferred. The person in this position reports to the Circulation Supervisor. The position entails some evening and weekend hours.
